1.How does the design that you created demonstrate your knowledge of playing card design?
I feel the design I created demonstrated my knowledge of playing card design because I tired to keep the cards all symmetric and balanced throughout my design. I also incorporated some basic design elements from typical playing cards like the number and the symbol in the corner.
2.How would the rest of the deck look? What would you do for the other picture cards? Please describe in detail?
The rest of my deck would follow the same color scheme. The number cards would all have a specific types of stars like how the diamonds are white dwarfs the hearts would be red giants, the club would be a binary star and the ace would be a protostar. The Queen would be Mars and the Jack would be Jupiter. All these cards would also have the background with the stars and a fun fact in a white bubble.
3.How does your design demonstrate your knowledge of adobe illustrator?
My design shows my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator through my use of the symbol sprayer, shape tool, pen tool and gradient tool. To create the background I layered many rectangles filled with the dark blue gradient and between each layer I symbol sprayed stars to make it look like some were farther away. To make the white dwarf stars I used the shape tool and I adjusted the number of points on each star and then I added an outer glow to make it look like it was shining. To create Saturn I used the shape tool to make the main part of the planet and then used the pen tool to make the shape of the rings. I then applied a gradient to make it look more realistic.
4.What do you feel was the most challenging part of this project and why?
The most challenging part of this project was figuring out what I wanted my design to be. I wasn't to excited about my theme and I found it challenging at first to find a design that would work with it. I also found it very challenging to make Saturn and the white dwarf stars to look more realistic and less cartoonish.
5.If you can change one requirements what would it be and why?
I would change the fact that we are randomly assigned our themes. I would have been a lot more invested with the project if I had a theme that I was more passionate about. I understand that in the “real world” you wouldn't be able to choose but it would have been interesting to see the different results if everyone had come up with their own theme.
